Businessman plans to climb Mount Everest

KUALA LUMPUR: After climbing several mountains in Malaysia and the Himalayas, a businessman here now wants to scale Mount Everest.

T. Ravichandran, 40, plans to climb the highest mountain in the world solo in March next year.

He has already scaled a number of mountains such as Gunung Ledang, Gunung Tahan and Gunung Kinabalu in the country and Mera Peak and Island Peak in the Himalayas.

“It will be my final climb. It is not a heroic attempt as I want to do it before I get too old.

“At the same time, I hope to raise money for charity,” said Ravichandran, who is managing director of a management consultancy firm, TR Group of Companies.

He intends to be the first Malaysian to climb Mount Everest from Tibet.

The climb, which will take at least three months and cost about RM75,000, will be fully funded by his company.

Ravichandran said he will set aside a personal donation for charity and hoped other corporate organisations would similarly contribute to charity once he reached the peak.

To prepare for the expedition, he is planning to climb the 8,201m Cho Oyu summit in Nepal in September.
